Advanced Power Line Diagnostics Using Point Cloud Data—Possible Applications and Limits

The advance in remote sensing techniques, especially the development of LiDAR scanning systems, allowed new methods for power line corridor surveys using a digital model powerline and its surroundings. advanced diagnostic techniques based on acquired conductor geometry recalculation to extreme operating climatic conditions were proposed this model. Although process is relatively easy straightforward, uncertainties input parameters used can significantly compromise such accuracy. This paper presents systematic analysis accuracy affected by inaccuracies state equation variables. sensitivity inaccuracy five basic was tested (initial temperature mechanical tension, elasticity modulus, specific gravity load tower span) comparing sag values when with an ideal sag-tension table. presented tests clearly showed that must be taken into account during safety assessment process, as deviation can, some cases, reach comparable minimal clearance distances specified technical standards.
